GAFCON is a growing movement of Bible believing Anglicans committed to guarding the truth of the gospel so that it is faithfully preached throughout the world. The third Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) will be held in Jerusalem June 17-22, 2018.

Why Jerusalem 2018?
Because of compromised leadership in the Anglican Communion
To change the Communion from within
To experience true Communion, true unity with other orthodox Anglicans

Please remember in prayer everyone from around the world who will be attending GAFCON, and especially those from All Saints: Bp. Keith, Fr. Scott, and Jenna Vazquez, as well as others from our diocese, including the president, Canons, and other Deans.

Fr. Scott will be taking some vacation time before the conference, and afterwards will be in London on diocesan/Dean business. He will be away June 11 – July 2. Art Week

July 30 – August 3
5:30-7:45 pm

Dear All Saints Family,

I am excited to say that we will be hosting our 4th annual Art Week this summer. Art Week is a week-long nightly event that invites children ages 5-10 to participate in the Kingdom of God. As you know, we don’t want to just teach facts about God and the Gospel. We want everything that we do to embody God’s purposes and desires. I believe that we have seen that making art in community is a really good way for All Saints to do that and that it lends itself to reaching our community. As a reminder, Art Week includes:
Adults and older youth being relationally present with children
A shared meal (because hospitality, like art making, embodies God’s values)
A biblical theme that is explored from various angles throughout the week
Musical worship that helps connect our hearts and minds to the theme through poetry and music
And of course, art projects (designed by artists) that allow children to continue to experience, explore, and express the weeks theme in an open end and playful process.
This year’s theme will be called Giver and will focus on the Holy Spirit who is both gift and giver. Further details are still being worked on and I encourage you to keep your ears open for more details in the future. Here are some important details we do have:

  • Art Week will be: July 30th – Aug. 3rd from 5:30-7:45 pm.
  • Please RSVP by sending an email to: office@allsaintslb.com.
There is no cost for participation.
  • Art Week is designed for children ages 5-10. Parents are always welcome to participate as much as they would like.

Art Week is an important part of All Saints’ work in reaching our neighborhood with the love of God. I encourage you to prayerfully consider participating as a volunteer. You don’t need an art background, just a friendly smile for kids and their parents, and a willingness to hangout with kids while they make a mess. Sign-ups for various tasks will be coming out soon but you can send me an email anytime at john@allsaintslb.com to sign-up as a volunteer. Whether you choose to volunteer or not please keep this ministry in your prayers. Pray for the leaders developing the theme and projects. Pray for the families and children who will participate. Thank you all for your support of Art Week and for the ministry to Children and Youth at All Saints. It’s a blessing to me and to those our ministry touches.

The Peace of the Lord be with you,

John Calley
Director of Youth and Children Ministries

United Adoration Songwriting Retreat Attendees

Reflections on the Songwriting Retreat

As I was getting the word out about our songwriting retreat, the word that settled in my mind was “inspire.” I invited others, “Come get inspired with us!” This word “inspire” comes from the Latin word inspirare, which means “to breathe or blow into” and shares an etymology with the word “spirit.” For me, this immediately conjures up images of Creator God breathing life into Adam and Jesus Christ breathing the Holy Spirit into His disciples. And so we began our time of retreat praying the ancient hymn, “Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire, and lighten with celestial fire. Thou the anointing Spirit art, who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.”

Many of our retreatants shared with the group their reservations about writing music. Some had never written a song, others had tried but found themselves dissatisfied, and many of us had suffered the hurt of others dismissing or insulting our works. What brought us each of us through our fears and creative blocks that weekend was loving collaboration. As Paul teaches us, the Holy Spirit gives us each different gifts, and not all have the same gifts. In the collaborative process, we learn this and help each other through our unique gifts. As we are filled with the Holy Spirit-the Helper, the One Who Comes Alongside-we too become helpers who come alongside one another. We often can’t complete the task alone, but we can all bring our strengths and inspiration to the table to co-write our song.

The three persons of the Trinity collaborated in the creation of the universe. In the beginning God the Father created the heavens and the earth, and the Holy Spirit hovered over the face of the waters, and Jesus Christ the Word of God spoke every created thing into existence. So it is with us, who are made in the image of God. We are invited to be collaborators and colaborers with God and one another in creation. Together, we became inspired in a way we wouldn’t have been apart from one another, and our new songs are the fruits of our loving unity in One Spirit. We are inspired together.

Arend
